Belvoir Park Forest, located just south of Belfast, is a popular spot for weekend walks with the dog and where the kids can burn off energy. Ancient oak trees (some of the oldest documented in Ireland) still stand tall here, making for impressive shots for Instagram - but not so impressive sniffy selfies when their pollen peaks in May .
You’re likely to find higher pollen counts in other green spots like Ormeau Park, the oldest municipal park in the city, which has wide-open grassy spaces and tree-lined walkways. Meanwhile, Drumglass Park’s six acres of grassland mean those with grass allergies should avoid in June and July, when grass pollen peaks.
June and July also sees pollen peaks for weed pollen in Belfast, so maybe give the Botanic Gardens a miss until later in the year when levels are less likely to set off hay fever.
